Bulk-Y

I'd say that for the most part (yes, yes, I KNOW opinions are like assholes) dh and I are pretty S-M-R-T.
Except when it comes to food.
FOOOooooOOOOOD.
Food is our crack.
We save for months, fighting over pennies, hoarding dimes, counting quarters, skipping birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, meals...
And then we blow it. On one trip to the grocery store.
Five dollar olives? Soaked in sake? I NEED those. I'll eat one every day! For days!
What's that you say? Ten dollar oranges? That MUST mean they taste better. Throw THREE in the cart!
Our latest act of idiocy, by FAR more painful to our bank account than ANY Harris Teeter trip has been BJ's. As in: Buying in bulk.
For large families, bulk is great. And when we stay with dh's mom or my mom, bring on the motherfucking Costco, Bj's AND Sam's because I am ALL about that shit.
But for a couple with a husband who forgets to eat and a wife who would rather live on premade cookie dough (SINNER!), bulk = wasted food and empty bank account.
Yes! I need that 100 pack of gum! Who cares if it's 12 dollars? It's a deal!
Yes! I need 15 rolls of portugese bread! Who cares if I can only eat one every 4 days because they are so huge and that they mold after three days? I can scrape off the mold!
I also feel it necessary to add that certain objects, when bought in bulk, are strokes of genius. Toilet paper, for example. You can never have enough of that around. Toothpaste? Another bulk smart buy. Same for paper towel rolls, rice crackers (just ask Momma how long it tooke me to eat that five pounds of wasabi flavored excellence. Years, y'all, years), and vitamins. But food?
Not so much.
Case and point? The family pack of raisins sitting in our pantry that not only survived the move from Japan, but also had been residing with us since Summer '04.
Ummm, do those things go bad?

You have figured out the warehouse scheme, my dear. To exploit those of us who's eyes are bigger than their stomachs (or wallets). I don't go to these places anymore for that exact reason!

I should buy in bulk to feed this herd I have, but I don't.

Maybe because the only place that is even near here is Sam's and it's an hour away. I am too lazy to drive that far.

I must average $40/week at BJ's because it's between work and home. The coupons are the worst - I got 70 tabs of dishwasher detergent free - nevermind that I already had nearly 70 left from the bunch I bought the week before. With three of us at home, that's probably two years worth... My mebership doesn't run out until 2007 because that was on sale too.
