SHOPPING TIL WE DROPPING

Nothing like celebrating Presidents' Day by going out and dropping way too many of them. And we paid in YEN, so I don't know how many I parted ways with, exactly. Dh said we could go to the fish store. Just to look. And how was I supposed to know that right here, in Mizuho (Yup, that's Japanese for RIVER CITY) they would have God's Gift to fish stores? Fuck the candy! Every aisle was an impulse aisle here! They had weird albino looking frog things. And jumping aquatic lizards, and puffer fish, and clownfish and just about any other things that live in water that you can think of. Complimented by some tick size six dollar shrimp. Those things wouldn't even get stuck in my teeth! So as we were walking out, dh and I decided to pick up a couple things:

We are fish fanatics. Aquatic aquanuts. Just damn crazy, I think, considering we think we'll be jumping ship in June, which if you're counting, is JUST FOUR SHORT MONTHS FROM NOW! Dear sweet baby jesus in an itchy manger, I cannot wait until my husband will never be deployed again.

Apparently, the aquarium is the gift that just keeps on giving. Dh watches it instead of TV. It serves as entertainment. It also serves as amusement. Tonight as we were looking at the tank, my better half, my loving spouse says, "How much do you think that thing weighs right now? With all the water?" "Ummm, I don't know, 500 pounds?" (By the way, I have no eye for measurement, capacity, or anything else that is usually associated with "eyeing" stuff. Unless it's pancake makeup bitches staring at my husband when I feel all sick and ugly. Then I'll eye the FUCK out of those 18 year olds. Get your own, HOES. They couldn't have been less obvious if they had stood there licking their chops.) "Maybe that's why you're supposed to buy the stands that they come on,"he muses, casually. Did I mention he does everything casually?

At which point, I panic. I bought that piece of furniture at an on base bazaar. As in, not readily available, should it care to collapse under the weight of the gigantic titanktic! (Can you tell I read Dr. Seuss to the students today? Hmmm?) I don't think there'll be another one before I leave. "What, you think that piece of furniture will break?" The rising tone of my voice indicates that I am picturing dumping the whole thing out and driving to the fish store RIGHT NOW to get a PROPER STAND. Nevermind that it took us damn near two hours to set the thing up. My furniture! Must be preserved!

"No," he pauses (for effect. I should've known!) It's a sturdy piece of furniture. I mean, you laid on it, didn't you?"

Well, yes, I seem to resemble that remark. I blame it on the wine. Which would also explain the closed eyes and the awesomely 80's pose. Tiffany, anyone? Too bad I can't say the same for the aquarium.

When hubby first moved out of his solo apartment and into my home, he got rid of a HUGE aquarium, I think it was 55 or 60 gallons or something insane. It came with its own stand and cabinet and the whole nine yards. For various reasons, among them that he was going away for 3 months and I'd have to learn how to take care of the (expensive) fish, he decided against moving it to what-was-then-my-house. We still muse about what life would be like if we had it... we think, from time to time, that if we had space for one we would probably go get another one. We too, lurves us some fish.

I have always wanted an aquarium - now I'm inspired to get one. I'll get the proper stand of course.

We have a 55lb fish tank, with a frog and a couple fish. We went on a hunt the other day and didn't turn up much :( I am jealous you have all those great fish thingies there LOL

Not to mention I somehow doubt you way anywhere the 500 lbs. he casually guessed. Anyways... a good rule of thumb is a little over 8 lbs. per gallon (or a little over 2 lbs. per liter) so a 60 gallon tank weighs just over 500 lbs. in water alone.

You mean, you ddin't whack him for comparing you to the aquarium? Not that I'm trying to cause trouble (although I love stirring the pot), but I'm just saying...
