One thing I most certainly will not miss about the military is the phone calls at all hours of the night. While I used to enjoy the 3:45 am wake up calls when I was in college (So rebellious! So mysterious!) , now they just take several years off my life with each ring. I figure after 4 years as a military wife, I'll be croaking next year. Nice knowing you!
At the risk of sounding like a whiner, I don't know what the hell is so important that it makes the Colonel sit straight up in his bed in the middle of the night and cry, "Rally the troops, by Golly! Wake them and their entire families up THIS INSTANT!" Is he the malicious, power hungry type? If that entire serving of Spicy Noodles with pickled squid and octopus is keeping him up, then "Let Them ALL BE UP! No ONE SLEEPS!"
And dh and I, all snug in our beds, are blasted awake by the ringing of the phone and an angry voice (and rightfully so) declaring "Get your ASS to work."
I would have no problems with this were it an EMERGENCY SITUATION. "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" or "Fire!" or even "I've fallen and I can't get up!" but calling dh to go and sit? Well, shit. We can do that right here.
We can sit at our house!
Let them sit with their spouse!
It is way to early for Dr. Seuss, but do you GET MY POINT?
I suppose now that I've voiced this opinion it makes me an angry disgruntled military wife who doesn't support my husband and is an embarrassment to my country. It'll be about 3:45 am your time by the time I'm getting off from work. What's your phone number? We could make it fun! I'll call and hang up JUST before you pick up 3 times in rapid succession. Then I'll wait 30 or so minutes for you to JUST fall back asleep and call again! Yippee!
Thank the Good Lord that it is Friday. If Saturday, Sunday, and Spring Break weren't coming up, well...where the HELL is my CALGON?
My stepdad was a colonel and he never pulled that shit -- but then again, I heard from even soldiers in his brigade he was a good leader (so that probably says something). Now, my last BF was just a notch higher than a grunt and he had to deal with that crap all the time. I think it's people that are just trying to live out some type of power hungry fantasy.
Have you guys decided where to go when he gets out?
No you're right on this one. If it were really an emergency and you were griping that would be different, but for an officer to do it just because he can...weak.
LOL. I just love reading your blog! It is never to early for Dr Seuss, especially when a good point is being made.
It is so sad that I just read all of that and the only thing that stuck was the mention of spicy noodles. Yummy. I'm hungry.
totally..... sucks.............
